When the pandemic hit, the San Gabriel Valley's dining scene—heavily marked by small, family-owned shops and authentic Asian cuisine—felt a particular anxiety about their livelihood. But like many remedies in the era of Covid, community support and individual benevolence formed a patchwork counter to diminished business.

DORSET VILLAGE RESIDENTS FEAR LOSING THEIR HOMES

Redevelopment in this South LA neighborhood is creating anxiety about displacement and gentrification. This historically black community is undergoing some major changes. One of the biggest is the potential razing of Dorset Village Apartments, home to around 160 residents, and frequent hangout spot of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle.

Chinatowns across the nation are at risk of disappearing. LA's Chinatown is no exception. Gentrification, a symptom of imbalanced economic and social forces threatens to displace the historic neighborhood's long-time residents and businesses.
